Heinrich Conrad (mit burgerlichem Namen Hugo Storm, 1865-1919) stammte aus Husum, wurde nach einem abgebrochenen Medizinstudium Redakteur bei Kaysers Bucherlexikon, grundete in Berlin einen Verein fur freies Schrifttum und einen Verlag unter seinem Namen. Nach einem Konkurs mit hohen Schulden tauchte er fur mehrere Jahre unter, vermutlich in Italien und erschien dann als erfolgreicher UEbersetzer von Aretinos Gesprachen und Meursius' Gesprachen der Aloisia Sigaea im Insel Verlag wieder in der literarischen Szene - unter dem Namen Conrad(t). In der Folge veroeffentlichte er weitere UEbertragungen von Erotica, gab Napoleons Erinnerungen (in 13 Banden) heraus und kreierte die Emporlese-Bibliothek des Verlags August Scherl, wodurch er zu den Vatern der Buchgemeinschaften zu zahlen ist. Seinen endgultigen Durchbruch erzielte er, als den Verleger Georg Muller zu einer Anzahl von Reihen und Gesamtausgaben zu bereden wusste. Besonders hervorzuheben ist seine 15bandige Casanova-Ausgabe. Nur ein Teil der Projekte wurde realisiert, was indes dem Weltkrieg wie auch Mullers fruhem Tod - wie auch seinem eigenen - zuzuschreiben ist. Sein unstetes Leben, bedingt durch die Verfolgungen durch die Staatsanwaltschaft, fuhrt dazu, dass nur wenig uber seine Biographie bekannt ist. So bleibt hauptsachlich sein literarisches Werk als Quelle zur Beurteilung seines Schaffens - und da wiederum seine UEbersetzungsleistung. Die vorliegende Veroeffentlichung gibt einen UEberblick uber seine zahlreichen Werke und teilt uberdies seine Briefe an den Literarhistoriker, Bibliophilen und Schriftsteller Carl Georg von Maassen (1880-1940) mit.
