Nach Angaben der Weltgesundheitsorganisation ist jeder Vierte irgendwann in seinem Leben von einer psychischen Krankheit betroffen. Jedes funfte Kind in Deutschland hat bereits einmal in seinem Leben unter einer Depression gelitten, 15 von 1000 Menschen sind an einer schizophrenen Psychose erkrankt, 18% der Bevoelkerung benoetigt wegen einer psychischen Beeintrachtigung arztliche Hilfe und 4% eine psychiatrische Behandlung. Die Reaktion der Umwelt fuhrt oft dazu, dass sich psychisch kranke Menschen und ihre Angehoerigen zuruckziehen oder sich zuruckgestossen fuhlen. Psychisch Kranke erleben die Welt, ihre Mitmenschen und sich selbst anders als gesunde Menschen. Beispielsweise qualen sich Menschen mit Depressionen haufig mit Schuldgefuhlen oder wahnhaften Gedanken. Menschen, die unter einer schizophrenen Psychose leiden sind vielleicht der festen UEberzeugung, dass sie verfolgt werden oder Stimmen ihnen Botschaften vermitteln. Dies bedeutet aber nicht, dass psychisch Kranke in der normalen Welt keinen Platz haben. Im Gegenteil. Vielleicht sind sie weniger belastbar, reagieren in einigen Situationen uberraschend oder wirken eigenartig. Die soziale Isolation, in die eine psychische Erkrankung die Betroffenen und oft auch die Angehoerigen treibt, verstarkt das Leid erheblich. Akzeptanz der Eigenarten und menschliche Annahme kann die Situation erheblich verandern und verbessern. Einige moegliche Ansatze zur Hilfe sollen im Folgenden aufgezeigt werden. Sie dienen als Anregung und sind sollen keine Handlungsanweisung darstellen.
