Beginnen wir mit einem Klischee: Im Gedicht ist das Wort voellig frei. Denn auf poetischer Ebene verschmelzen das Anklingende und das Durchdringende eines Begriffs und er loest sich von seiner deklarier-ten Absicht - jede Nuance wird zur Chance, ein neues Talent in einem Wort zu entdecken; neue Bezuge, in denen es als Darsteller, als Requi-site, als Geste brillieren kann. In fast jedem Gedicht gibt es einen Punkt, ab dem man ungefahr begreift, wie es arbeitet, wie es seine Bewegung vollzieht, worauf diese Bewegung hinauslauft. Manchmal ist dieser Punkt schon am Ende des ersten Satzes erreicht, manchmal ist es erst die letzte Zeile, das letzte Wort, das einen die Spannweite des Gedichtes erkennen lasst. Vielen Gedichten von Matthias Engels gelingt eine Gradwande-rung: die Art der Bewegung kann man meist fruh erkennen, die Gedichte verfolgen ihr poetisches Verfahren mit einer Stringenz, die nie ganz fallengelassen wird. Aber am Ende entsteht oft noch eine Tiefe, eine Weite wirft sich auf, es kommt zu einer Wendung. Eine leichte Varia-tion oder Elastizitat im Ton wird sichtbar. und lass nur mein leiden und mein genesen wenn ich ehrlich bin sind das von jeher nur intervalle wie die striche der uhr gewesen und schlagbaume gegen die wirklichkeit So ein Moment, wenn das Gedicht sich an die wendet, sich oeffnet und du sturzt hinauf, hinein. Du schwankst, wie das Gedicht schwankt, es versetzt die Welt in Bewegung, es pumpt sie dir ins metaphysische Zentrum, wo eine kleine Abschrift zuruckbleibt, die dein Zweifel schon zerknullen koennte. nur an einem wort ist meine dna nachzuweisen (Timo Brandt)
