Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2010 im Fachbereich Geschichte Europa - Deutschland - Neuere Geschichte, Note: 1,3, Universitat Rostock (Historisches Institut), Veranstaltung: Kolonialismus des deutschen Kaiserreichs, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Als Bismarck am 24. April 1884 die Besitzungen des Bremer Kaufmanns Adolf Luderitz in Sudwestafrika offiziell unter deutschen Schutz stellen liess, stieg das Deutsche Reich in den Kreis der Kolonialmachte auf, dem es bis zur endgultigen Niederlage im 1. Weltkrieg und den fixierten Regelungen im Versailler Vertrag angehoeren sollte. Denn in jenem Augenblick, als sich das europaische Machtesystem durch den einsetzenden imperialistischen Schub zum Weltstaatensystem auszuweiten begann, sah sich auch das Deutsche Reich gezwungen, aus Angst seine Grossmachtposition in Europa zu verlieren, an uberseeischen Kolonien zu partizipieren. Unabhangig von der politischen Ausrichtung kamen Forderungen nach uberseeischer Expansion aus der gesamten Bandbreite der deutschen Parteienlandschaft, von den Konservativen bis hin zu den Sozialdemokraten. Alle waren sich einig, dass eine europaische Grossmacht, die Deutschland spatestens seit der Grundung des Reiches im Jahre 1871 war, auch Grossmachtpolitik betreiben sollte, die sich, aufgrund des bereits erwahnten imperialistischen Schubes, auf eine andere Ebene der politischen Agitation hin zur Weltmachtpolitik verschoben hatte. Obwohl der Zeitgeist des Imperialismus grosse Teile der Bevoelkerung begeisterte und Kolonien im Allgemeinen haufig als Prestigeobjekte betrachtet wurden, stand Bismarck seit jeher einer formellen Kolonialpolitik sehr skeptisch gegenuber. Obwohl er letztlich 1884 aktiv in die Kolonialpolitik einstieg, ausserte er einem Reichstagsabgeordneten gegenuber noch 1881 unmissverstandlich: So lange ich Reichskanzler bin, treiben wir keine Kolonialpolitik.
