Geburtstag von Prof. Dr. WERNER WACHSMUTH war fur seine zur Zeit an der Chirurgischen Universitiits-Klinik Wurzburg tiitigen Schuler und Mit- arbeiter AnlaB, ein wie uns scheint heute besonders aktuelles und wichtiges, aus allen Teilen der Chirurgie sich zusammensetzendes Arbeitsgebiet in Buchform darzustellen. Neben anderen chirurgischen Problemen galt ein besonderes Inter- esse WERNER WACHSMUTH- von jeher unfallchirurgischen Fragen. Dies fand neben zahlreichen Publikationen in seinen Werken, Praktische Anatomie Bd. II 2 und 4, gemeinsam mit T. v. LANZ herausgegeben, und Die Operationen an den Extremitaten Band XII und II im Rahmen der Allgemeinen und Speziellen chirurgischen Operationslehre von KIRSCHNER, GULEKE und ZENKER seinen N iederschlag. Ein Buch wie Traumatologie in der chirurgischen Praxis vorzulegen, erscheint uns im Hinblick auf die standig wachsende Anzahl zur Versorgung kommender Unfallverletzter, mit denen sich der praktisch tatige Arzt und speziell der Chirurg in zunehmendem MaB auseinandersetzen mussen, wohl berechtigt. Es war die Absicht der Verfasser, in erster Linie die primare und dringliche Versorgung von Unfallverletzungen in den Vordergrund zu stellen, um im Rahmen des Moglichen Spatschaden zu verhindern. Die Behandlung eingetretener Spat- schaden durch korrigierende Eingriffe und Rehabilitation wurde daher zum Teil nur angedeutet. Auch auf Fragen der Begutachtung posttraumatischer Folge- zustande wurde nicht naher eingegangen.
