About this product
Product Information
Professionalizing Second Language Writing is an edited collection that bring together perspectives of second language writing specialists who shed light on second language writing as a profession. Some of the chapters illuminate the nature of second language writing not only as a field but as a profession. Other chapters provide an in-depth look at the issues second language writing specialists face as they go through various stages of professional development in their institutional contexts. Together, these chapters provide insights that can help graduate students and early career professionals as they envision their future and cope with new issues and challenges in their own processes of professionalization. Contributors include Dwight Atkinson, Pisarn Bee Chamcharatsri, Deborah Crusan, Atsushi Iida, Soo Hyon Kim, Todd Ruecker, Tanita Saenkhum, and Christine M. Tardy. About the Editors Paul Kei Matsuda is Professor of English and Director of Second Language Writing at Arizona State University, where he works closely with doctoral students specializing in second language writing. He is co-founding chair of the Symposium on Second Language Writing and editor of the Parlor Press Series on Second Language Writing. He has also served as the President of the American Association for Applied Linguistics. He has published widely on the history, definition, and identity of the field of second language writing and on topics such as identity and voice in writing, intercultural rhetoric, language differences, and writing program administration. Sarah Elizabeth Snyder is a PhD Candidate at Arizona State University where she specializes in second language writing and writing program administration. Sarah also served as the Associate Director of Second Language Writing at ASU. Informed by the study of second language acquisition, sociolinguistics, and rhetoric and composition, her research areas concern the intersections of second language writing and writing program assessment. She is active in national organizations such as the Symposium on Second Language Writing as well as the Council of Writing Program Administrators and their Graduate Organization, for which she has facilitated multiple mentoring and professional development events. Katherine Daily O'Meara is Assistant Professor of Rhetoric and Composition and the Director of Composition at Emporia State University. Her major areas of interest include second language writing, writing program administration, rhetoric and composition/writing studies, L1 and L2 teacher training and professional development, institutional ethnography, first-year writing, and threshold concepts. Kat is an active member of the Council of Writing Program Administrators and is the outgoing Past Chair of the WPA-GO, the CWPA graduate organization.
