      Great model representing a piece of history

      As America's first step towards landing a man on the moon, the Mercury Redstone is iconic. The size of the finished model is manageable for display purposes (unlike an even smaller scale Saturn V) and it is more colorful than an Atlas or Titan. But instead of including a separate capsule for the unmanned flights (few collectors are likely to built one of those), they should have provided the porthole version without having to resort to PE parts to be glued onto the exterior of the window capsule. The PE parts will never lie flat enough against the corrugated exterior of the capsule to look realistic. In order to have the most realistic looking model, one is left with having to build Liberty Bell 7 instead of Freedom 7.
