  • Good book. poor ending.

Another outstanding book by this author. However he ends the book (50 pages) discussing the justificaiton of the use of the atomic bomb on Japan. After 400 pages of outstanding factual writing about the navy and its huge Saipan campaign, he rambles on and on with the whys and wherefors of the bomb's use and everyone else's input and reasoning. He should have just stuck to the navy topic. It's a great book. Just skip the last few chapters.

  • A good follow up to his other works

Not as good as some of his other books: Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors and Neptune's Inferno, but a very good read and worth your time.

  • A Great Account of the Battle of Saipan

Well written account of the US Navy, Marines, & Army Invasion of the Marianas islands. The beginning of the end of the Japanese rule in the Pacific
